Rules for Roulette

Roulette is a fairly simple game, which, however, offers a large number of options for how to play the game.

To take it from the bottom up, the primary part of roulette consists of a game board and a wheel both with 37 squares from the numbers 0-37, which are divided into black squares for odd numbers and red squares for even numbers. Green is not part of the ordinary numbers, and is most often marked with a green field. On the game board, the board is divided into three rows with 12 number fields each and with a 0 field at the end. There are some editions where there are several fields, such as American roulette, which you will be able to read more about later on this page.

Next to the game board with the 37 number fields, you will find a number of extra fields for different game options. These options include fields that count for rows or sections of numbers on the game board. At the end of each of the three rows there is a field where each field covers the respective row of numbers it is placed at the end of. Next to the game board with the numbers, there are also three fields, each covering three sections of numbers. Here is one for the numbers 1-12, 13-24 and 25-36. In addition to this, there are also two fields that cover the numbers 1-18 and 19-36. 0 does not count in any of these extra fields, and is a number all by itself.

In addition to the fields that cover numbers, there are also fields that cover the colors red and black, as well as even and odd numbers.

All the number fields and the extra fields are what make up the game options in roulette. The game is about you as a player having to make a bet. You can bet on one or more numbers, the extra game options such as red / black, or a combination of it all. There is actually no limit to what you can gamble on.

Once the players have placed the desired bets, the wheel is spun with numbers and a ball is thrown into the wheel. The ball will then hit one of the numbers in the wheel, which will be the winning number for the round.

There are different payouts depending on the type of bet you place. You get the biggest by betting on single numbers, where the bet is returned 36 times again. It is also possible to bet on several different numbers. This can be done several ways. One way is to throw bets on multiple numbers on the game board itself. This can be done by placing bets on each individual number, or by splitting the bet. For example, if you put a token in the lines between two or four numbers, then you will be playing on the numbers between the token.

Another way to play on multiple numbers is by using the extra fields outside the game board. This can, for example, be the field that applies to the numbers 1-18.

Refunds on winnings for numbers are easy to find if you take as a starting point that winnings for one number give the money 36 times back. For example, if you play on two numbers instead of one, you will get the money back 18 times for your bet. An effort in the field that covers the numbers 1-18 will therefore give the money twice again. 

In addition to being able to play on numbers, there is also the possibility of coloring or whether it will be an even or odd number. Here you get the money twice again. As with the fields for sections of numbers, the field 0 is not included here. Therefore, if you bet that it will be an even number, then you will not win if the ball hits 0.

Some versions of roulette have in addition to the above additional fields, also a number of more game options. These will usually be fields that cover special patterns of numbers. For these patterns, however, the same principle applies that the payback is 36 divided by the number of numbers played on.
